There is no easy answer when it comes to deciding between a townhouse or a condo for your living situation. Both options have their own unique pros and cons, which can make it difficult to choose the best option for your needs. Determining which type of housing is better will depend on your individual preferences, as well as the specific features that each one offers.

So before you call your local real estate agents and start looking for townhouses or condos for sale in Mission Hills and nearby, read on to learn about the main differences between the two types of property.

What are the differences between condos and townhouses?

There are many similarities between condos and townhouses, but there are also some differences. When comparing the two, it’s important to recognize these differences in order to make an informed decision about which housing option is best for you. The following examples should give you a better understanding of what sets them apart:

Ownership

Condos are actually owned by a group of people who have purchased part of the building as opposed to just one person owning a townhouse. This means that when you purchase a condo, you will not be responsible for maintenance costs such as roofs or exterior walls. However, it can also mean shared common areas like elevators and hallways.

Townhomes are typically owned by one person or a family, which means that you are responsible for all repairs related to the structure and exterior of your home. This can be good or bad, depending on your personal preferences. However, it’s important to note that because townhomes are not shared with other owners, they often offer more privacy than condos.

Parking space

Another difference between condos and townhouses is the parking areas. Many condo buildings now have multiple assigned parking spots as opposed to just one like traditional homes. This allows everyone who has a car space in the building to park their vehicle specifically in front of their unit entrance, eliminating any potential issues of trying to find an open spot on crowded streets.

Townhouses typically do not have reserved parking spaces but instead rely on street parking or designated visitor parking. This means that you may be parking your car on the street or walking farther to a visitor parking space than if you had a reserved spot in front of your unit entrance.

Size of the property

The other main difference between condos and townhouses is their size. Condos are usually smaller spaces as they were designed for people who do not need a large amount of physical space but prefer instead to have extra amenities such as shared common areas and extra storage units.

Townhomes, while often similar in size to traditional homes, can also be quite small with only one living floor or very few rooms depending on what the new owners want out of their home and how much they are willing to spend on it. They tend to offer more privacy than condos and are also generally more suitable for families as they have more space and provide more bedrooms.
